2021, marks the 30th Anniversary for Carlisle Enterprises! One of things that I enjoy most about being “The Printer Guy” is all the relationships I have made through the years with my wonderful customers. So, on this Thanksgiving week 2021, I just wanted to highlight two stories about a couple customers we’ve been serving since the 1990’s, but retired after this past Tax Season.
You know, I love seeing the smiles on my customers faces… When I was in his office earlier this year for what would be
the final printer service call of his career, one of our long-time accountant customers told me he was retiring at the end of Tax Season, on May 17, 2021. Brian is a wonderful Scottish man of 85 years. (And, yes, his surname is Irish, but he was born and raised in Scotland. As a young man, he emigrated to the United States to start a new journey in his life, and he has been here ever since). It has been an absolute joy to serve him through the years since the 1990’s, and of course, I love his rich Scottish accent. Last year, I installed a printer for him (shortly before Covid hit) because he had been milking an old HP LaserJet 4100 for many years that was now not able to connect to Windows 10 anymore. So, I was able to give him a special deal on a much faster refurbished printer.
I’ll never forget seeing his face light up so brightly when he saw how fast his new printer printed out his W2s and all the tax forms he would be printing. He was just really thankful that we got it going for him. And, it just brought a lot of joy to me that day especially as he confided in me a little bit earlier that his precious wife of many, many years had passed away just a few months before. So, the people I get to know and work with are certainly my favorite thing about my job. I especially enjoy serving those who the “bigger guy” out there would probably not have much to do with, like my now retired friend, the Old Scottish Accountant 😊
I also loved serving Larry, an accountant in Park Ridge, Illinois, and another one of our longtime customers. He has been a customer since at least the mid-1990’s. He and my Dad, Nolan Carlisle, are about the same age, so they always enjoyed working with each other 😊 Larry is still printing with an old HP LaserJet 4050 that my Dad recommended him purchasing many, many years ago. In fact, he bought it in 2000. Earlier this year, I may have serviced it for the last time because he probably “retired” after this past tax season. He told me that day with such a smile on his face, “Your Dad recommended I get this printer, and it’s just been an absolute workhorse ever since!”
Both Larry and the Old Scottish Accountant are probably the kind of businesses that would fly under the radar of most printer repair or copy machine companies, but they’ve been the bread and butter of Carlisle Enterprises for 30 years. We’ve been blessed to build our business on the backs of small to medium sized businesses and small CPA firms through the years, and we look forward to continuing to serve these kinds of companies both now and in the future for years to come. Carlisle Enterprise is definitely not the best fit for many companies, but for the small to medium sized businesses who want to work with someone who really cares about them, we fit right in…
Thank you, Larry and Brian for your loyalty for the past 25+ years May you both enjoy your well-earned retirement. It has been an absolute pleasure for Nolan and I to work with you!
